March 30th,
Xander's pain seems to be mostly gone. Tonight he started to peak a fever though. If it keeps going up its a ER visit for us. It thats the case he will miss is Aunty Jen's baby shower tomorrow. He was really looking forward to playing with his cousin Lily. I'm expecting the temp to go down soon, and tomorrow to be just fine.

March 28th,
Xander woke up yesterday with more localized pain then the day before. I talked to his Drs. at Doernbecher just to be safe. They recomended I take him to his local ped. and have him evaluated just in case he had a fractured pelvis. It turns out he just has a contusion of the tailbone (read bruised tailbone). No big deal at all. You just don't know, and with Xander we can't guess we have to check.

March 27th,
We took Xander to a park yesterday in between rain showers. He had a blast until "the slide". Emerald Park has a wonderfuly fast straight slide. Xander hit the end with a big thud onto the ruber mat at the end. Then he continued to bounce 5 feet along the ground. Needless to say he has a bruised tail bone. Xander now makes a little squeak when he sits down. Other then more tylenol for pain he seems to be fine.

March 26th,
Xander is now on pain meds. His Vincristine chemo on Thursday last week has caused the usual weak "tired" legs that are numb and tingle. This time though we added a sore, "off" jaw. The jaw reaction is actualy one of the most common side effects of the Vincristine. Xander has not had it before, but the legs happen almost every chemo treament.

March 23rd,
Chemo went well yesterday. Xander's bladder infection issue still remains a hidden problem. Dr. Wolf saw Xander and came up with all sorts of problems that might have caused the issue, but we all remember that the first bladder infection dip stick showed a infection. Xander is starting to have more pain. Everything is sort of on hold while we wait to see if this resolves itself, or needs to be addressed again. Xander is on his one week of steroids so he isn't all that happy today. We don't have any fever though, and he still has plenty of energy, other then his tired legs that are a part of chemo.

March 20th,
Xander's Doernbecher Dr. agrees with Dr. Lux only as far as Xander not having any more symptoms. If any of his previous symptoms come back, or he starts to show any signs off illness its off to ER again. Thank goodness we have the Thursday Chemo time set up. Xander can be evaluated by a non ER Dr. (ER Drs. have a bit of a reputation in the medical community we have learned) who knows his particular case and needs. Check back Friday for updates.

March 19th,
Xander's urine seems to be returning to normal, but there has been some confusion on the parts of the Drs. His ped. got the lab results back and it shows no infection. Xander takes antibiotics every weekend that will not stop a bladder infection, but does prevent the type of phnemonia that aids patients get. This may have inerfered with the lab results. We have been ordered to stop all antibiotics, and have new labs done on Thursday. Right now for all we know we have a hidden infection so caution is the name of the game. Also the ER DR said Xander's platelets are good, but he has started having mild nose bleeding again. Its possible that the platelets aren't close to a transfusion point, but are low enough to affect blood clotting. We have had to deal with this before. I'll keep everyone updated as things progress or hopefuly don't progress. Cross your fingers.

March 17th,
Xander's blood counts are less then perfect right now. I guess the cold he was fighting knocked them down a bit. This enabled my huge water drinking 7 year old to get a serious bladder infection. He was urinating blood today. I din't find this out until his karate test was over ( he did outstanding by the way), we called Doernbecher and headed straight to ER for blood counts and evaluation. As it is for the next couple of weeks he is on a more restricted activity schedual. We need to keep him healthy and out of the hospital. Other then his Tuesday karate class to get his new belt, and Chemo next thursday we are keeping him home and rested. The Drs put him on antibiotics and told us the bladder infection should be good in a couple of days. The blood counts will take a bit longer to jump back since chemo is next week. It very well might be 3 weeks for those to become stable at a safer level.

March 13th,
Xander is doing much better. He still has a cough, but for the most part is over his cold. We are delighted that the fever portion of this virus stayed low enough, if only just, that Xander did not need to go to ER. He has a Karate test this Saturday, and it has been tough making up enough classes for him to qualify to take the test. He needs to have attended or made up 80% of the total number of classes. The poor guy has been sick off and on this term, and that has been a challenge.

March 7th,
I'm behind in Xander updates because we have all been stricken with a nasty cold. Xander ran a fever off and on for two days. Again for a healthy child thats nothing, but for Xander it can meen a trip to ER and a possible hospital stay. We fortunatly avoided both, and he is down to a bit of a sniffle with a bad cough. Both his sisters and myself are still ill.
